Fairborn Senior Center – Volunteer Drivers Needed

The Fairborn Senior Center Transportation Services department is seeking volunteer drivers to operate a department provided car, a wheel-capable mini-van, and a full size van.  Volunteers may drive any of the vehicles and can drive as often as wanted each month, including full days, half days, multiple times per month or once a month.  All drivers receive training and insurance coverage while they are driving department vehicles.  If you or someone you know can spare the time and are interested in volunteering, please contact Jim or Charlotte at 878-4141 ext 4141.

February 8, 2010 – Huber Heights Senior Center Health Screenings

The Huber Heights Senior Center is offering free blood pressure checks and sugar checks to all community senior citizens on February 8th at 9:45 a.m.  The blood pressure and blood sugar levels checks do not require fasting and will be checked by staff from Springcreek Nursing and Rehabilitation center.  For more information call the senior center off at 233-9999.

February 9, 2010 – Black History Month Lecture

In recognition of Black History Month, there will be a lecture on “The Life and Fiction of Paul Lawrence Dunbar” at 7 pm on Tuesday February 9th at the Huber Heights Library located at 6160 Chambersburg at the Huber Center.  For more information contact the office at 496-8901.

February 10, 2010Senior Center Soup Luncheon

The Huber Heights Senior Center, located at 6428 Chambersburg Road, will hold a soup luncheon fundraiser on Wednesday, February 10 with a snow date of February 12. Tickets are $5 that covers soup, ½ sandwich (chicken & tuna salad), crackers, drink and dessert. Tickets go on sale January 7.  For more information call the Senior Center office at 233-9999

February 12, 2010 – Beavercreek Senior Center Dance

The Beavercreek Senior Center will be holding a dance on Friday February 12th from 1 to 4 pm and will include a band, and great food as well.   Tickets are on sale at $10 for Center members and $15 for non members. You don’t have to dance or have a partner to attend! Come enjoy the music, food, door prizes, and friends.  The Beavercreek Senior Center is located at 3868 North Dayton Xenia Road.  For more information contact Senior Center office at 426-6166.

February 13, 2010Miami Valley Adoption Fair

The Eighth Annual Miami Valley Adoption Fair will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Salem Church of God in Clayton. Admission is free and open to the public.   This year the fair will feature a child development seminar from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with presenter Jayne Schooler, a nationally recognized educator.  Professionals from 25 area organizations will be present to answer questions about domestic and international adoption.  The Salem Church of God is located at 6500 Southway Road, three blocks west off of Salem Avenue in Clayton.  For more information, contact Jackie at 223-7217, ext 2125.

February 13, 2010 – Valentine’s Dinner and Dance

The Brandt United Methodist Church will hold its Annual Valentines Dinner and Dance on Saturday February 13th from 6 to 9 pm.  Dinner will be served from 6 to 7 pm followed by live music featuring golden oldies. Tickets are on sale at the church for $10 for adults and $5 for children age 4-12.  Childcare will be provided for children age 12 and under.   Brandt United Methodist Church is located at 6805 East State Route 40.   For more information call the church office at 845-8025.

February 14, 2010 – VFW 7741 Valentine’s Day Pancake Breakfast

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7741 will be serving a “Special Valentine’s Day Pancake Breakfast” on Sunday February 14th from 10 a.m. until noon.   The menu includes pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee.  The cost is $5 per person and is open to the public.  VFW Post 7741 is located at 7921 North Main St, 2 miles south of Interstate 70 at exit 29 in Clayton.  For more information contact the VFW office at 898-8357

February 20, 2010 – YMCA Father-Daughter Dance

Hey Dads and Daughters it’s that time of year again, as the Adventure Princess Father-Daughter Dance will be held at the Kleptz YMCA on February 20th from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm.  The dance will feature a dinner, dancing and a father-daughter picture.   Tickets are $10 each.  The Kleptz YMCA is located 1200 West National Road, just one block east of Hoke Road in Englewood.  For more information contact the YMCA office at 836-9622.

February 20, 2010 – Glee Club Concert

The University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club will be performing a concert at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday February 20th at 7 pm.  The Club has been acclaimed as one of the finest male chorus in the world having toured Europe, the Far East, Russia, South America and Australia. The concert is being sponsored by the University of Michigan Alumni Club of greater Dayton. All proceeds will go into the local student scholarship fund. February 21, 2010 – Vandalia Community Chili Cook-off

There will be a Community Chili Cook-off at the Vandalia Recreation Center on February 21st from 4 to 6 pm.  Guest will be able to sample a multitude of chili and vote for your favorite.  A Judge’s Choice Award and Community Choice Award with be given.  If you think you have the best chili, please consider entering the contest.  Find out about the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and how you can get involved. February 24, 2010Huber Heights Fire Department Presentation

The Huber Heights Fire Department will present information on the proper handling and operation of fire extinguishers and show a video on the behavior and rapid development of fire and its relation to the home environment (how construction, furniture, housekeeping, and fire protection systems work to spread or prevent fire and protect occupants in their own homes). This presentation is open to seniors in the community and will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, at the senior center.

February 26, 2010 – Free Health Screenings

Premier Community Health personnel will be at the Earl Heck Community Center on Friday, Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. until noon to do free health screenings which include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, hemoglobin Ale (diabetics only), height and weight management and take home colorectal screening test. No appointment is needed and no fasting is required. Miracle Ear will also have a representative doing free hearing tests. March 14, 2010 – Hannah’s Treasure Chest Fundraiser

April 16, 2010 – Knights of Columbus Fish Fry
