Aug 28, 2008 – Grief Recovery Program

A Grief Recovery Program will begin on Aug 28th at Crossroads Hospice, 8087 Washington Village Dr, Suite No 120 in Dayton.  This program is offered once from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  These sessions will run for 12 weeks.  The program creates a safe environment to learn how losses affect us, and how to move past the grief and pain through new actions.  A trained and certified moderator leads each session.  To register, please contact Ron at 312-3170

Aug 28, 2008 – Northmont Battle of the Bands

The Northmont “Battle of the Bands” features ten local high school marching bands.  The competition starts at 7pm on Saturday, August 30 at the Northmont High School Stadium, on US40 just west of Englewood.  Tickets are available at the gate for $6.  For more information, call Myra at 832-0913.

Sep 5, 2008 – Marian Council KoC Friday Night Dinner

The Marian Council of the Knights of Columbus is holding a Friday night dinner on September 5th from 5:30 to 7pm.  It will be held at Marian Manor, 600 Dog Leg Road at the intersection of north Main Street, just south of Englewood.  Tickets are $6 for adults, $3.50 for kids, or no more than $18 for a family.  For more information or to get advance tickets, call 226-0618.

Sep 5 - 6, 2008 – Sister Cities of Vandalia Octoberfest

Are you ready for Octoberfest!!  The Sister Cities of Vandalia will be hosting Vandalia’s Oktoberfest on Sept 5-6 and 7th. Location will be at the Vandalia Sports Complex on Stonequarry Road in Vandalia.  Hours will be Friday, 6p, to Midnight, Saturday, Noon to Midnight and Sunday noon to 6 PM. German Bands will be playing through out the Festival and of course, Food, Food and more Food.  Bring the family and enjoy Oktoberfest in Vandalia!

 

Sep 6 - 7, 2008 – Miamisburg Starving Artists Festival

The Miamisburg Starving Artists Festival will be at Miamisburg Library Park, at the 400 block of Central Avenue or Hwy 725, on September 6th and 7th.  This event features over 100 exhibitors selling paintings, folk art, jewelry, florals, ceramics, wood items, and much more. The Miamisburg Starving Artists Festival will be held on Saturday, September 6th from 8am to 5pm; and Sunday, September 7th from noon to 5pm.

Sep 11, 2008 – Fairborn Senior Center Zumba Class

Are you ready to get moving again?  The Fairborn Senior Center at 325 N. 3rd Street, will once again host a Zumba class.  The class will be held on Thursday nights at 5:30 PM starting September 11Zumba is an aerobics class that is done to Latin Music.  The key is to keep your feet moving at all times.  The classes will continue until November 20.  Costs per class is $3 for members with an activity card, $4 for other members and $5 for nonmembers.  Everybody 18 years of age and older is welcome.  For more information call Amy at 878-4141.

Sep 11, 2008 – Ecumenical Prayer Service and Reception

Father Rick Friebel, Pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dayton and the Knights of Columbus, Dayton Council #500 are hosting an Ecumenical Prayer Service and Reception honoring those who serve as police officers, fire fighters and paramedics in our community, as well as the military personnel who serve our country. The event will be held starting at 7pm on Thursday, September 11 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 272 Bainbridge Street (next to the main Post Office) in Dayton.  A reception follows at the Knights of Columbus hall across the street from the church.  For further information please contact Jeffrey at 838-1158.

Sep 13, 2008 – Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Montgomery County is having a Household Hazardous Waste collection event on September 13.  Residents of Montgomery County may dispose of items such as insecticides, flammable liquids, chemicals and batteries by bringing them to the Municipal Service Center, 600 North Main Street in Miamisburg, between 8am and 2pm on Saturday, September 13.  For more information, call 225-4999 or 847-6635.

Sep 13, 2008 – Union Toll Road Festival

The annual Union Toll Road Festival is planned for Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13.  The streets in City of Union will be taken over by live bands, carnival rides, games, a car show, craft booths and much more.  For more information, call 836-8624.

Sep 13, 2008 – Cruise-In for a Cure

The Xenia Professional Firefighters Classic Car Show is coming on September 13th.  All proceeds go to helping restore a 1928 Seagrave fire truck owned by the Xenia Professional Firefighters Local 698.  The registration fee is $10.00.   There will be dash plaques to the first 100 cars, Top 35 trophies, specialty trophies, Door prizes, & much more. Sep 14, 2008 – Cruise-In for a Cure

“Cruise-In for a Cure” is an event being held at New Carlisle Chrysler on 580 N Main St. to raise money for the Clark County Breast Cancer Endowment Fund.  This car show and cookout will be held from 11am to 4pm on Sept 14th with a registration fee of $10.00 for the car show.  Organizers are looking for vendors and car show participants.  All makes, models, and years are welcome including motorcycles.  There will be a cornhole tournament and 50/50 raffle.  Door prizes, trophies, and T-shirts will be given away.  For more information or to participate contact Abbey at 845-1700 or ayork@ncchrysler.com

Sep 17, 2008 – Montgomery County Veterans Service Center Presentation

The Montgomery County Veterans Service Center will present information on who is eligible to receive benefits, types of benefits and services, answer questions, and give out brochures. This is open to any veteran and to family members of veterans. Sep 19, 2008 – The 10 Healthiest Foods

Learn how minor changes in your diet can make big differences in your health and well-being. Patty McCormick, a Registered Nurse, will discuss “The 10 Healthiest Foods” at the Huber Heights Senior Center.  Her talk will start at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, and is open to seniors in the community. Sep 23, 2008 –Employ the Older Workers Job Fair

In response to an aging workforce and a tightening labor market, the AARP Foundation and The Employment Guide have combined efforts in order to bring together older workers with companies who seek their talents. If you are a workers age 40 and older seeking employment, attend Dayton’s Employ the Older Workers Job Fair on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Wright State University Nutter Center at 3640 Colonel Glenn Highway.  Participating employers represent industries such as health care, customer service, hospitality, finance, sales, insurance, skilled trades, transportation, security and more.

Sep 25 - 29, 2008 – Moving Wall Exhibit

American Legion Post 165, Rolling Thunder, Inc, and Star City Classic Parts will sponsor a visit to Miamisburg by The Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington DC.  The Moving Wall will arrive September 25, 2008, and be in place in Library Park, Miamisburg Ohio, for public visits until September 29th.  For more information, contact Gene at 681-5089, or go to movingwall.myburg.com on the worldwide web.

Oct 5, 2008 – Country on the Ridge

This year's "Country On The Ridge" concert will be the biggest and best yet. It’s happening on Sunday, October 5 at 7pm at Northridge High School Auditorium, 2251 Timber Lane, in Dayton. Don't wait, set aside this date so you won't miss out on these outstanding performances by some of country music's really great talented performers including Frank Myers, Eddy Raven, Jerry Williams  and Richie McDonald.
